- 5 Rules of Essential Oils

Rule #1: Never use Essential Oils undiluted on your skin. The only exception to this rule would be Lavender and Tea Tree which are generally agreeable with most people but some people may even find these irritating without dilution.
Rule #2: Test for sensitivities. It is a good idea to test an oil before using it to see if there are any allergic reactions. To do this place Oil that you have diluted on the crook of your arm. Wait for 6-8 hours to see if any rash or other reaction becomes apparent.
Rule #3: Alternate Oils every 2 weeks. The reason for alternating your oils is so that your body does not build up a sensitization to any particular oil.
Rule #4: Never flush with water if oils get in your eyes. If you read the first part on Aromatherapy you will remember that Essential Oils do not mix with water. This will only spread the oil more. To get Essential oil out of the eyes flush with carrier oil or even vegetable oil if that is all that is handy or try milk with a high fat content. Essential Oils love fat and will attach itself to the fat readily making it easier to get it out of your eye.
Rule #5: If you have symptoms of Overexposure get fresh air. Generally this is not a problem for the average person but if you have been blending and pouring oils for quite awhile you may develop symptoms of overexposure. These would include Nausea, Headache, Skin Irritation, Emotional Unease or just feeling generally weird. If these symptoms pop up just go out and take some fresh air.

We are so confident in the quality of our oils that we can provide gas chromatography analysis and specifications on the volatility and integrity for many of the essential oils we stock. As per our commitment to organic agriculture, we offer one of the nations largest selections of certified organic essential oils. Considering the amount of pesticide use from the planting to the harvest, we are very concerned about the low quality and potential health hazards associated with many conventional oils.
We perform painstaking research when we decide to stock a particular distillers oil and insist on the location of harvest, methods used to extract the oils, data reports assuring the oils character, and what type of material is used in the distillation process.
All of the essential oils we stock are obtained by steam distillation of fresh plant material with two exceptions
Absolutes/Resins- are extracted with a solvent, usually alcohol and sometimes other hydrocarbons, such as benzene, hexane, etc. While they are not suitable for therapeutic aromatherapy, they do make wonderful perfumes and are alcohol soluble. Those oils which we have found to be extracted with solvents will be noted as "solvent extracted."
Citrus Oils- All citrus oils offered are distilled strictly through cold pressed methods, and no steam distillation was employed to produce these oils.
Live Green - Consumer Tips
Stopping Global Warming
As pollution increases, so does the world's average temperature. Global warming forces rapid changes in human and animal habitats. Life becomes more difficult, many species will not survive. Human industries and activities produce the world's air pollution, most of it carbon dioxide and other "greenhouse" gases that result in global warming. The U.S. releases approximately 40,000 pounds of carbon dioxide per person each year.
What You Can Do
You can help stop global warming by taking these 10 steps to cut your yearly emissions of carbon dioxide by thousands of pounds.
1. Next time, buy a car that gets at least 30 miles per gallon (reduces carbon dioxide 2,500 pounds a year over a car that gets 10 mpg less.).
2. Where you can, choose an electric utility company that does not produce power from polluting sources such as fossil fuels and nuclear fission. (Enormous potential reductions in carbon dioxide emissions.)
3. Replace standard light bulbs with energy-efficient fluorescents. (Reduces emissions by 500 pounds per year light bulb.)
4. Replace worn-out home appliances with energy efficient models. (Reduces emissions by up to 3,000 pounds per year.)
5. Choose the best energy-saving models when you replace windows. (Reduces emissions up to 10,000 pounds per year.)
6. Wrap your water heater in an insulating jacket. (Reduces emissions up to 1,000 pounds per year.)
7. Install low-flow showerheads that use less water. (Reduces emissions up to 300 pounds per year.)
8. Ask your utility company for a home energy audit to pinpoint the biggest energy-wasters. (Potential reduction of thousands of pounds per year.)
9. Whenever possible, walk, bike, carpool or use mass transit. (Reduces emissions by 20 pounds for every gallon of gasoline used.)
10. Insulate walls and ceilings and save about 25% of home heating bills. (And reduce emissions by up to 2,000 pounds per year.)

Aromatherapy Tips for Beginners
Aromatherapy Tips for Beginners
DON'T: Don't buy perfume oils thinking they are the same thing as essential oils. Perfume oils do not offer the therapeutic benefits of essential oils. Even if you only intend on using aromatherapy in your lifestyle for the sheer enjoyment of the aroma, essential oils that are breathed in can offer therapeutic benefits. These benefits do not occur with the use of perfume oils.
DON'T: Don't buy essential oils with rubber glass dropper tops. Essential oils are very concentrated and will turn the rubber to a gum thus ruining the oil.
DO: Read as much as you can on Aromatherapy. It is very easy to get started with Aromatherapy, but there are safety issues that you need to be aware of. AromaWeb does offer safety tips and information to help you on your way, but you are wise to read even further on the important subject of essential oil safety. Visit the Book Shelf for book descriptions on over 12 popular aromatherapy books.
DO: Be selective of where you purchase your essential oils. The quality of essential oils varies widely from company to company. Additionally, some companies may falsely claim that their oils are undiluted or pure when they aren't.
DO: Learn to compare apples to apples when shopping for oils. Anise, Lavender, Bay, Cedarwood, and Eucalyptus are examples of the common names of plants used to create essential oils. There, however, are different varieties of each of these plants. To differential these varieties, the botanical name (also referred to as the Latin name) is used to tell them apart. For instance, two different oils are referred to as "Bay essential oil," yet they come from two different plants. The properties and aroma of each oil do differ as does the general cost between the two. It, therefore, is important to pay attention to the botanical name. In the case of Bay, the common botanical names for the two oils used in this example are Pimenta racemosa and Laurus nobilis.
